Cosmic Energy Meditation

This is a nice little exercise using energy to increase positivity and reduce stress.

Start int he usual way, find somewhere nice and quiet to relax where you won't be disturbed. Focus on your breathing, take nice long, slow, deep breaths, Let all your thoughts quiet down and drift away. When you feel nice and relaxed we begin the energy meditation.

I'd like you to visualise a bright white light above your head. Concentrate on this light and as you watch it you notice it getting bigger and brighter. Watch the light and bring it closer to you. When the light is next to you I'd like you to expand it into a bright white ball, then place yourself inside this ball.

This is the earth's positive energy and you are now tapping into all the positive life forces that it brings. I'd like you to take a nice deep breath now. As you breath in consume some of this beautiful bright white cosmic energy into your body. Just breath in the light. Feel it warming your insides as you sit and relax.

As you breath out let all your negative energy travel out of your body with your breath. Visualise this negative energy as black or dark light. Watch this energy move away from you and be absorbed by the white energy. This white energy will purify all your negativity and return it to the cosmos as pure energy.

Repeat this process for as long as you need too. Breath in the white cosmic energy and breath out any negative dark energy you have contained within you.

Once you are finished enjoy your day and enjoy your new found feeling of lightness.

Society, Religion, Spirituality and Meditation

Lots of people are interested in meditation but it still has that little bit of mystique about it. It comes from the East so how can we adapt this to fit into our lifestyles and our religions. They are after all very different.

As people hear of the benefits of meditation it has travelled the world several times over under various different names. One thing that we have realised though is that countries like India, China and Japan have always been at the forefront of meditation. Most of the new enlightenment techniques that we are just learning now started in Asia, and often centuries ago. As you can imagine though there are a lot of differences between how people live in Asia and how we live in the West today. Our upbringings are different, our lifestyles are different, and the way we learn and understand is totally alien to the people of Asia. This means that the way our countries understand and accept meditation is also slightly different.

Society

In Asia students of meditation learn the concepts by way of parables or stories. In the West we encourage critical thought. We teach our children how to think with rational, logical minds. Telling stories to explain a thought doesn't work. We require facts and scientific data. We lose a lot of the meaning behind meditation because of this, and limit ourselves to the depths that we can reach. There is a meditation society in most countries now. This is often the best place to find meditation courses and seminars local to your region.

Religion

Religion has also adapted to encompass meditation practices into it's daily programme. You can now find meditation exercises adopted to suit Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and many other religions. Some people are still finding resistance using meditation within their specific Church or Temple. While meditation has been accepted by most religions some people are finding it slow to trickle down to the people at the bottom. If you would like to incorporate meditation into your religious practices and are finding it difficult to get information from your local religious centre there are lots of examples and instructions online to show you the best ways to use meditation for your own religious purposes.

Spirituality

Spirituality and the new age movement was one of the first groups of people in the west to adopt and accept meditation practices into their way of life. Spirituality differs from religion in that spiritualists aim to reach a level of happiness in their lives. Religion tends to stick to a set of rules, where as spiritualists will try various different methods to find the path that is right for them. It is a very personal experience and they can use meditation to help them along the path that they have chosen.

It really doesn't matter why you come to meditation. It is such a simple technique to master that you can adapt it to almost any situation.

Lots of people are talking about meditation, but what exactly is it and what does it do?

Well in it's most general terms meditation is a way of altering your state of consciousness. Well that's great but why exactly does anyone want to alter their state of consciousness?

In today's world everything is more fast paced than it used to be. We face more and more decisions everyday. This creates more pressure on the brain which can result in stress. Take a moment and think about your day. How many decisions to you have to make on average each day? What breakfast cereal do you eat, which bus do you take to work, and the scariest one, how do you like your coffee? These are just the little things you have to decide everyday. The big decisions like what school to send your kids too, which project is more important at work. Where are you going to get the money to pay for the car repairs, all add up on top of this. The world has gone and gotten itself all tense without us noticing. All this technology that was supposed to make our lives easier now seems to be making demands on our time. By altering your consciousness you can tell your brain to relax a little. You can step back from the daily grind and just put things into a little perspective. By slowing your brain down, you give your mind time to deal with the stress and anxiety that has built up over the day. It's a bit like doing a quick tidy up at the end of the night. It leaves your weekend free to have fun. We've all seen what can happen if you don't de-stress regularly. Things build up until the point where you can't cope. When you meditate regularly it reduces the chances of you getting into that tense uptight stage.

Many people when they first start out don't know how to meditate. If you are an absolute beginner then look down this site you will see the beginners guide to meditation that will provide you with all the basics that you need to know to get to start.

Later I'm going to provide you with some meditation excersises that can help you get to that desired mental state quickly so you spend more time getting the real benefits of meditation.

For those of you who want to learn more I will provide you a list of courses and classes that you can attend to fine tune your techniques and get the most out of the time you spend. I'll also provide you with a list of soem equiptment you may want to buy to make your meditation time more comfortable and enjoyable. I'll also show you some programs you can use to assist you on your journey. All of this and more Will be coming up shortly.

A Beginners Guide to Meditation.

Meditation is becoming more and more common in the west as people start to realise the benefits that it can bring. A lot of people that I have spoken to seem to feel a little lost when they try meditation for the first time. They are unsure of what meditation is about, how to do it or how it could help them. Many people simply just don't know where to start.

Meditation is one of the easiest and most accessible methods around to rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit. It can boost your energy levels and relieve a tired and over worked mind. The main aim is to empty your mind of all thoughts. This may sound ridiculously simple but you might be surprised at how much your brain resists. Luckily though there are a few tips and tricks that can help you along the way towards this bliss like state.

Meditation can be done anywhere but when you first start out it may be easier if you can find a calm, quiet place where you won't be disturbed. Somewhere where you feel relaxed and comfortable. Some people think that you need to sit on a hard floor crossed legged in the lotus position to meditate properly. Many people do do this but it's not necessary. A comfy chair that supports your back and lets you relax fully can often make the process much easier.

Once you are comfortable it's time to start emptying your mind. One of the easiest ways I've found to do this is to concentrate on my breathing. As you slow down and focus on your breathing your body will naturally begin to relax and unwind too. Be careful you don't hyperventilate though. The first few times I tried to meditate I made myself dizzy and had terrible headaches. That's not really the result you are aiming for. Try to relax and breath normally, feel the air as it passes through your nose and mouth. Feel your chest rise and fall as your lungs inflate and deflate. Most of all just try to relax and enjoy the experience.

Mantra's are also a good way to empty your mind. By continuously repeating a phrase over and over again it leaves little room for other thoughts to intrude. Many people use ancient sanskrit phrases like "OM", this is a particularly good one to use because as well as giving you something to focus on; the low vibrational sound of the world also helps you to relax. Other people prefer to use more modern positive thoughts or affirmations as their mantra's. These work just as well and give your self esteem a little boost too.

However you choose to empty to your mind you'll probably find that the odd stray thought will still creep in. This is ok, don't feel frustrated by this. Simply recognise that the thought is there then bring your focus back to your meditation. Be patient will yourself. Meditation developes over a period of time. The more you practise the easier you will find it is to slip into that meditative state.

Lots of guru's suggest that you spend anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour a day meditating. Many people feel intimidated by this length of time. It's often difficult to keep your mind focused for so long without it wandering off to plan your shopping list or worry about your bills. Don't let these times scare you. If 15 minutes is too long, try 5 minutes, or even a minute without any thoughts interrupting you. Any meditation at all is beneficial. Soon you'll come to crave these minutes and will find it easier and easier to meditate. The most important thing is to do it as regularly as possible. If you can, set aside a specific time each day that is yours and yours alone, for quiet, uninterrupted meditation.

That's about it, everything you need to know to get you started, now it's up to you, just relax and have fun.

Improving your Awareness on Spiritual Growth Meditation Techniques

Improving Your Awareness on Spiritual Growth Meditation Techniques
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mike_Selvon]Mike Selvon

It seems that we are in a time of spiritual enlightenment, as more people are gaining an awareness of the value of meditation techniques, yoga practices, and other methods of self-awareness that are instrumental in fostering spiritual growth. However, there are many different aspects of spirituality to consider and often it can be easy to miss some of the most fundamental and simple things. One of these fundamentals that can either help or hinder spiritual development is complete honesty.

Everyone knows that honesty is a good and valuable characteristic to cultivate, but it is not as often recognized as a necessity when seeking out spiritual growth. However, as most people move along through their spiritual journey, most people start to really discover the significance and importance of honesty as it relates to their quest. There are four primary areas where honesty comes into play most significantly.

The first area is in facing your weaknesses. In order to enjoy significant spiritual growth, a person must be able to honestly see, acknowledge and evaluate his weaknesses. No one is exempt from have having shortcomings, but they can interfere with spiritual development if the person tries to justify them away or refuses to see them. Only when a person is honest with him or herself will they begin to change.

Secondly, honesty is needed in facing up to the realities of your life. You need to be completely honest about the state of affairs of every aspect of your life. Stop clinging to the image that you want to present to the rest of the world, and begin to embrace the true state of your life and your relationships.

The problem with clinging to the image, which is most likely "perfect," is that it gets in the way of being able to make real, lasting and significant changes that can lead to real happiness, rather than just an illusion of it. With honesty, one can look at the real truth and then have a realistic place to begin to improve.

Thirdly, honesty is needed to help people eliminate fake personalities, which must be eschewed in order to enjoy true spiritual enlightenment and growth. Most people put an enormous amount of energy, thought, and anxiety into creating and then maintaining completely false portrayals of themselves.

They become more like characters acting in a play than real people engaged in real life. In order to have any hope of enjoying true spiritual healing and development, a person must peel away these false personas and be sincere and forthright beings.

The fourth way that honesty plays a role in the spiritual journey is through the use of meditation techniques. When a person begins a session of meditation, they should be aware their flow of thoughts.

For most people who are just learning to master their minds through meditation, they will discover thoughts that are filled with false reasoning and justifications. The best way to begin to control this flow of thoughts is to deal with them in an honest and forthright manner, then setting them aside and allowing the more centered and real thoughts to come to the surface.

As you continue on your path of spiritual growth and development it will be helpful to always keep these for aspects of honesty in mind and review your progress with them. As you do, you will enjoy moving to higher levels and stages of spiritual development, which will lead you toward your true spiritual life.

Abundance Meditation

Abundance Meditation
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=J_Finnis]J Finnis

Meditation has long been an integral part of Eastern mysticism with the discipline enjoying growing popularity in the West as more people discover its benefits on both mind and body. Meditation can take a variety of forms but essentially involves withdrawing attention from the physical senses while trying to quieten the chattering noise of consciousness.

There has been much interest of late in the subject of abundance, indeed the self-help shelves are chock full of titles on the topic. The principle of abundance says the universe consists of plentiful supply just waiting to be claimed by those who ask.

This meditation combines the mental and physical benefits of an altered state with a training of the mind to promote abundance-attracting behavior. You can either memorize the words, repeating them internally to yourself, or read them onto a tape (changing "I" to "you") to be listened to at the appropriate time.

Find a place and time when you won't be disturbed. If you live with others you might choose a time when they are otherwise engaged. Or you can just negotiate some "me" time in which you'll be left alone.

Get comfortable. Sit or lie down, as you prefer; if you find you easily fall asleep it's probably best to sit. You might want to play some gentle (eg new age) background music, or silence may work best for you.

Begin by focusing on your breath. Breathe deeply, slowly and steadily - in and out. Feel the breath going deep into your abdomen. Do this 10 or 20 times or so.

Focus on each part of your body in turn, relaxing them completely. Focus on your toes and work up. Focus on your soles, heels, ankles, calves, knees, thighs, hips, abdomen, solar plexus, chest, shoulders, upper arms, elbows, lower arms, hands, fingers, neck, head.

Enjoy being in a state of complete relaxation for a few moments.

Then say the following words to yourself or listen to the tape you recorded:

I am a unique individual, a Spiritual being undertaking an incredible adventure in the magnificent realm of the physical universe.

The world I currently inhabit is truly amazing. I experience its magnificence every time I contemplate the sheer size and scale of the galaxies, stars and planets. And when I observe the beauty of nature, or the complexity of the living ecosystems of which I am a part here on planet earth.

In its relatively short existence the creativity and ingenuity of humankind has made enormous progress in accelerating nature's work by shaping her raw materials inventions capable of enhancing the quality of this experience we call life.

The world I inhabit has abundant supply. More than enough for everyone to enjoy a life of unlimited plenty, for the universe in unlimited in its capacity to supply.

As a part of the original creative source I have the God-given right to enjoy all that I desire. I know that abundance is not only about material things, but also, and more importantly, about love, friendship, good health, purpose, fulfillment and Spiritual growth. In all of these areas too I am entitled to, and will receive, plentitude.

I know that it's not wrong to desire abundance for myself and my loved ones, because with abundance I am more empowered to promote the Spiritual growth of myself and others, which is the very purpose of my being.

In order to achieve I must first conceive. Therefore I now take a few moments to visualize my future abundance. I see my abundance in detail; the kind of house I'll live in, my business or job, the food I'll eat, the clothes I'll wear, the car I'll drive...

Whatever it is I desire I now see it as clearly as though it's already mine. And I know that it is already mine, just like a house I've taken title to but have yet to pick up the keys. The abundance I desire is already mine.

Each time I meditate on abundance, so my imaging becomes cleaner and more detailed. And I move closer to realizing the abundance that is already mine.

I hold the image for a few moments more.

I make the image an ever-present part of my psyche. It remains with me throughout my daily life.

I know that the infinite powers of Spirit and the physical universe are already moving to realize my abundance. And in turn my thoughts and actions align themselves with the realization of my abundance.

To return to waking consciousness, count back from 20 to 1. Take a few more deep breaths and stretch your arms and legs. You may find a drink of water or a light snack helpful in returning your attention to the physical realm.

Practice the meditation often, ideally every day, but at least 2-3 times a week. Feel free to change the words to better suit your circumstances, personality or desires; or to reflect the abundance that starts to appear in your life.

Be Still ---Why do that?

Be Still - Why Do That?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Barbara_Faison]Barbara Faison

Meditation - Om. The sound of the word can create images of monks sitting crossed legged chanting words you don't understand. Or maybe people in flowing robes espousing words of universal love. Forget your preconceived ideas of what you may think meditation is and focus on the results of regular practice. Take a moment to imagine a day that starts out peaceful and clear and well executed. Silence is a way to add to your spiritual bank account. Peace of mind, clarity and focus are some of the results of regular meditation.

Meditation is the process of letting go of the thoughts in your mind so you can release and recharge. Meditation for me is the process of going inside to reconnect with myself. It allows me to let go. I have become more clear and focused and that allows me to make better choices.

When meditation was first suggested to me it didn't make sense. Being still? Are you kidding? What could I learn from silence? I was a talker. Who would I talk to? I enjoyed thought provoking conversations. I didn't get it at all. My connection with my inner spirit was probably there but it was temporarily disconnected due to lack of funds. At 30 I had not learned that the currency required for my spiritual bank account was in the form of being still. I was being proactive by seeking out information from sources like people, books and classes. I was not interested at all in being still. Stillness didn't seem like a way to learn anything.

In 1995 I started dabbling with meditation a few times a week. I didn't want to commit to the practice. I was afraid to be still. I was afraid of what I might find out about myself. Quiet Barbara scared me. I started meditating very slowly and with hesitation. I was still not convinced I would really benefit from silence. It took several years before I decided to create a daily spiritual practice that included some form of meditation. I used a guided cassette daily in the morning and learned to be still. When I decided to embrace meditation as a natural process for growth and development I began to understand the power of silence. I saw myself grow like a newly watered flower. Now, I won't leave my house without my meditation time. If I am running late, I will be 5 minutes later. Meditation recharges my internal batteries.

Every morning I sit on my sofa, I close my eyes and breathe in and out and I sit in complete silence. In the stillness I have a reverence and an appreciation for my life. I give thanks to The Creator for all people and experiences I have had and the ones I will create.
In the five to ten minutes of complete silence I allow my thoughts to do what they will, sometimes they tell me what I need to do, sometimes not. I allow my meditation time to develop as it will. My daily meditation practice reminds me that I have a lot more to learn about myself and life. I have learned that I need to be still to get clear so I can choose well. After meditating my spiritual bank account is full and I am ready to create the day I want. Be Still: Yes, I must do that.

Meditation

Meditation is quickly gaining popularity in the western world, yet surprisingly most people aren't exactly sure what it is. I remember when I first started meditating. Everyone was full of useful advice. Mostly consisting of finding a quiet space and letting your mind empty. Sounds easy right? You'd be surprised at how difficult it is to empty your mind. But don't worry, help is at hand. With this blog I'm going to describe to you some of the techniques that I have used to help me get into that bliss like state of meditation.
